My clients Ruben and Mike wanted a barn door to close off the private area of their home. Since they had several copper art pieces, I suggested that we embellish the door with aged copper and they loved the idea.
We purchased a large 5-panel fir door from Frank Lumber (46″ wide and over 7 ft. tall) and purchased the aged copper sheets from one of my favorite online sources VanDykes as it was much cheaper than having a local person age the copper for us. I had a blast hammering the copper to age it even more and then it was mounted on both sides of two door panels.
The hardware had to be mounted from the ceiling so we used the Modern Flat Black hardware from Rustica Hardware. The tricky part was making sure the measurements came out exactly right. Luckily it all worked out and the result is stunning.
So if you are thinking about adding a barn door, remember you can let your imagination run wild.
